The Wire

Revisiting Greatness

18 years ago this past Monday the above scene ended the final season of The Wire.

Since then, it’s been the subject of college classes, law school classes and, of course, film school courses.

It’s creator, David Simon, was even interviewed by a sitting president (Obama.)

The Hawaiian Supreme Court even cited the series when it rejected a gun rights challenge based on U.S. Supreme Court precedent. Justice Todd Eddins quoted the character Slim Charles to argue against using 18th-century18th-century historical traditions to define modern gun laws.

”The thing about the old days, they the old days”

With all this, and with noting how often the show is hailed by critics as the best ever it’s curious to note that the show never won a single Emmy.

Not one.

It is available on DVD, Blu-Ray and on HBO MAX for streaming.

This was not a commercial.

This was a celebration of a good thing.
