Abel Rodriguez is, by all accounts, one of the good ones. A quiet, friendly presence, he spends his days as a janitor at Community High School in Collin County, near Dallas, Texas, navigating from routine spills to the tidying up the school grounds. occasional unexpected “mess” in the hallways. He’s not a big guy, but he was always there with a high five for an athlete or words of good luck before a test.

“He supports us through everything. He’s our biggest cheerleader”

-Student athlete Addee Kuenstler.

“He has a million reasons to be sad, and never has a smile NOT on his face… he’s always more happy than you will ever be, honestly.”

-Jorryn Collins

So, when at the end of one Wednesday workday things broke from the norm, Abel knew something was up. He just didn’t know what.
