Perovskite solar cells (hereafter referred to as PSCs) are the next “big thing” in fabricating silicon solar cells. In a nutshell, PSCs are:
Cheaper, lighter, and almost 2x more energy-efficient than traditional silicon
Can be placed almost anywhere (windows, irregularly shaped surfaces, or even moving vehicles)
Can be made at scale at a relatively lower cost that current panels
Open up a whole new range of uses for solar power, like desalination
Have a cubic, crystal structure that is interesting, but not very durable.
So, that sounds good right? What’s the catch? Why haven’t you heard of PSCs?
