The KBO All-Star Game, played on July 6th, was a mid-season celebration of Korean baseball's finest. Fans voted and experts weighed in to select the
The game took place in Incheon, just west of Seoul, where a sellout crowd of 22,500 braved windy and rainy conditions to see the league's top players, who were then divided into two teams: the Dream All-Stars and the Nanum All-Stars.
The game itself was a close one, with the Nanum All-Stars edging out the Dream All-Stars 4-2. But what makes this stuff so good is how the game extended into some heartwarming and stupidly adorable moments.
Many players brought their children to the ballpark, and were allowed to walk up with their daughters. It’s just about as good as you can imagine:
The festivities weren't limited to kids. The whole game was a cascade of entertainment. Another highlight saw Lotte Giants’ OF Hwang Seong-bin delivering a rosin bag to his teammate from inside a metal box while riding a scooter!
The playful spirit continued with LG Twins' Austin Dean fulfilling a childhood dream. Dean, who once aspired to be a pizza delivery man, delivered real pizza to the opposing team’s catcher in the first inning.
Other players donned unique costumes, from a leather jacket (below) to a King Kong outfit! Sadly, I cannot find a picture of the great ape outfit.
All-Star games, no matter the league nor location, are generally inconsequential (for the most part.) So kudos to the KBO for allowing their game not only to be a celebration of skill and talent, but also adorable, fun and…
Good.
