Washington state is home to good wine, tasty apples, high-tech and, now, a loyal, exceptional dog. On September 25th, Gita found help in a novel manner for her 84-year-old owner who had suffered a fall and was unable to move.
The unnamed octogenarian injured his leg near a summer cabin and found himself without means of calling for help or getting himself upright. But Gita! The faithful canine knew what to do, she raced out of the cabin and deposited her keister on a nearby road, refusing to leave until someone stopped.
Fortunately, that the person who stopped was Stevens County Deputy Wright. Initially perplexed by both the dog’s behavior and because he noticed no sign of an owner, Wright tried to coax the dog into his patrol car, but Gita stood firm, signaling something was wrong. After checking nearby homes and finding no clues, Wright returned to the road, where Gita had now laid down, and concluded there was more to the story.
The stand-off continued until Gita started making her way, with Wright in tow, down an overgrown side road to the small summer cabin. There, Wright discovered the elderly man, who had been lying on the ground for hours, unable to call for help and in desperate need of assistance. His injuries, combined with other medical conditions, meant that Gita's timely intervention likely saved his life.
"We credit Gita for saving his life that day. The loyalty and heroism of our furry friends never cease to amaze us."
So much good here. The bond between dogs and their owners. The loyalty. The love.
It’s a good dog.
It’s a good story.
Max has more to which to aspire! Go Gita!
