Great architecture. Can’t beat it.

As Churchill once said, "We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us"

Thus today we’re going to take a look at ten (10) buildings slated to be opened this new calendar year. Ten buildings by architects new and architects known.

1. The Lucas Museum by MAD (Los Angeles)

We’ve got a couple of interesting openings here in Los Angeles this year. Personally, the one after this is a little more exciting, but the spaceship quality of Lucas’ museum (not to mention its content) stands in curious contrast to the nearby Coliseum.

2. CityWave by Bjarke Ingels Group (Milan)

The Ingels Group (AKA BIG) is also unveiling their Suzhou Museum in China which also deserves mention. But this Italian building’s scope and slope are what earns it the nod in my silly eyes.

3. Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi

The late Mr. Gehry once said:

“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.”

I think that will prove to be the case with his final, and long-anticipated Guggenheim installment:
