Blue Energy

Blue as in water. River and ocean water.

At the intersection of every river and sea lies a potential power source. One that derives from the osmotic pressure created when the freshwater dilutes the saltwater. This pressure is then captured by mechanical turbines or is captured as a direct ionic current.

This technology is called Blue Energy, and can be a perpetual, 24-hour cycle that never leaves the grid in the dark. Conservative estimates suggest this could contribute over 5,000 terawatt-hours annually—enough to meet roughly 20% of the entire planet's electricity needs! Without a single puff of smoke, ember of coal or spinning of a windmill.

It is, quite literally, the energy of the tides and it is awesome.
