Blind Janitor Walks. Community Rallies
Social Media Does Good as it Connects Community with Legally Blind Worker
Bill Moczulweski has quite the work ethic.
Until recently Mr. Moczulewski walked five miles starting at dusk to fulfill an overnight shift as a janitor at a Cabot, Arkansas Walmart.
Five miles. Each way. One hour of walking. Each way.
"I want to work." says Mr. Moculewski.
This kind of work ethic alone would maybe merit a One Good Thing mention. But this story gets better.
You see, Bill is also blind.
A fellow Arkansan, Christy Conrad, once picked up Bill when it was nine degrees and pitch black. She began to assist him to and from work when she could.
But she was just a single person, she needed more help to assist Mr. Moczulewski and soon enough a Facebook group was started. Different members of the community coming together to offer and coordinate rides.
Again, if this was the end of the story. I think it’s a good story.
Mr. Bill’s Village is the name of the Facebook Group and soon enough a handful of volunteers were assembled to drive and to keep an eye out for him. Almost unbeliviably the group grew to nearly 1,500 members, ensuring reliable transportation to and from work.
Local car dealer Chris Puckett, joined the collective good-goings, and recently donated a vehicle to the cause (I guess unaware of the Bill blindness.) This group let no good deed go unsung, in a testament to the idea of community and cooperation that this story epitomizes, Puckett entrusted the car to Conrad, embodying the spirit of giving.
Moczulewski himself expressed his gratitude for the unexpected kindness:
"There's a lot of good people in this world, all over the place, you know."
