We’ve all been there: a four-way intersection. A red light, absolutely no opposing or perpendicular traffic. None. And the light remains red.

We can hair a ride with our phone and track its approach, and this is still a common modern-life experience?

It’s ridiculous. It’s dumb.

What we need are lights that react to conditions. Not just you waiting at an intersection, but reacting to an ambulance with sirens and lights ablaze racing towards the intersection. Or traffic lights that are aware of what color the lights are one, two, and three blocks away.

This isn’t a dream. This isn’t imagination. There are people and companies working to make this happen. To drag traffic into the 21st century.
